Western Australia is a state in Australia occupying the western part of the country. It is the largest state in the country with more than 2 million residents. The economy is very capital intensive in comparison with other states. More than a third of the country’s overseas exports are from Western Australia.

Western Australia has a strong mining industry strengthened by the demand for minerals and petroleum. Iron, oil, liquefied natural gas, gold, nickel and diamonds are some of the minerals mined. The state is bauxite’s major extractor. Bauxite is processed into alumina and provides the world with a fifth of the global production. Seventy-five percent of Australia’s gold as well as 15% of the total iron ore in the world are produced here. The coal mined is mainly used in electricity generation for the state. Miners, mineral processors like jewelers, engineers, scientists, can practice their careers in this industry.

Agriculture is also a major industry in Western Australia with sectors as crop production, and animal husbandry. Wheat production accounts for 50% of the national output. Other crops grown are barley and peas. The livestock reared are sheep for their wool and cattle for their beef. Half of Australia’s live cattle exports are from this region. The demand for live animals by South East Asia is high because of the lack of refrigeration and appropriate storage as well as traditions. Pastoralists, agronomists, horticulturists, soil scientists, irrigation engineers, veterinarians and farm laborers and other related positions can practice their trade in the industry.

The manufacturing industry comprises the largest oil refinery in Australia. The oil refinery produces petrol and diesel for local consumption. There are iron plants, alumina processing plants, nickel processing plants and Port facilities for exported products. There are heavy and light engineering plants which support the mining industry as well as metal fabrication plants. Other secondary industries include flour milling, automotive, printing, animal feed production, cement manufacturing, and food processing. Seeing as the region has a port, ship building industries are common in Henderson. This industry presents a lot of job opportunities.
