Tauranga is a city on the north island of New Zealand; the city is the largest city in the region of the Bay of Plenty. Tauranga is New Zealand’s fastest growing city, and because the city is growing there are many job opportunities opening up.
Tauranga is a major tourist destination and it provides employment opportunities for many different people. The major tourist destinations in Tauranga are Greater Tauranga which is a very popular tourist and retirement destination which has spectacular scenery and attractions, the city has a temperate climate that is perfect for the tourism industry and it makes it possible to have many out doors activities such as surfing, hiking, white water rafting, golf, mountain biking, fishing, diving, swimming, dolphin watching and just sitting in the sun by the beach. The major job opportunities in the tourism industry include jobs for hotel owners, managers, waiters, bartenders, tour guides, chefs, boat owners, art and crafts men and musicians. Tauranga holds the Montana Jazz Festival each Easter, and provides jobs for musicians and festival organizers.
The Bay of Plenty has historically known as a trading port and in the 1800s it was an important trade port for flax. Today the Bay is still an important trade post and it provides jobs for players in the import and export industry. The main products that are traded in the bay are pigs, flax, and potatoes. The port of Tauranga is the second largest port in new Zealand, the port provides many job opportunities, most of which are with the Port of Tauranga LTD which is the company that operates the port, the company is one of the 50 largest companies of new Zealand and is listed and trading on the NZX. The company there fore provides jobs for stock brokers, shipping clerks, ship yard workers, cargo loaders, truck drivers.
The services sector of Tauranga like any other growing city is quite big, for example the retail industry which is concentrated in the CBD of Tauranga provides many jobs for shop managers, salesmen, shop assistants, accountants, and stock controllers etc, the outer suburb areas in Tauranga have shopping malls and shopping centers such as Fashion Island, Fraser Cove, Palm Beach Plaza. The services sector also employs teachers who teach in the various government and private schools in the city for example Tauranga Boys College, Tauranga Girls College, Aquinas College, Bethlehem College, and Mount Maunganui College.
