Jobs in South Island

New Zealand is a country made up of two islands and of these two south island is the largest, however the smaller north island is the most populous, with only a four million new Zealanders living on the island.

South island has many companies in the manufacturing industry for example there is the Macpac Outdoors, Particle Systems, Westland Manufacturing, Wyma Engineering, Jade software, Link ElectroSystems, Kingwood Skis, Enztec, Desingline and Britten Motorcycle Company. The manufacturing industry employs many people like technicians, welders, electricians, production managers, engineers, designers, etc.

The south island also provides job opportunities for bankers, financial investment experts, stock brokers, accountants, auditors, insurance brokers, and general dealers in the financial services sector; the south island has many financial and banking institutions such as the Canterbury Building Society, Nelson Banking Society, Pyne Gould Corporation, and Property Finance Group. The south island has a big biotechnology and technology industry that provides job opportunities for bio-technicians, lab technicians, lab assistants, chemical engineers etc. the biotechnology and technology sector is serviced by some big companies such as Botry-Zen, BLIS Technologies, Pacific Edge Biotechnology, Pharmazen, Plus SMS, Scott Technology, SLI Systems, and Syft Technologies.

The services industry in the south islands is very vibrant and employs the bulk of the working population; the services sector includes the transport, retail, media, and education. The major transport companies on the south island are Ritchies Coach Lines,
Red Bus Ltd, TNL Group, Air Nelson, and Citibus Limited. The transport sector employs taxi drivers, pilots, air traffic controllers, haulage truck drivers, bus drivers train drivers and conductors.

Tourism is an important part of the economy of the south island, the island has many tourist destinations, like museums, historical landmarks, and natural wonders. The major tourist attractions on the south islands are the Hanmer Springs, Dunedin, Fiordland, Wanaka, Marlborough, Tasman District and Nelson. The tourism sector employs many people from tour guides, hotel managers, waiters, chefs, drivers, vendors, and tourism agents. The major companies and hotels in the tourism sector on the south island are Christchurch Casino, NZKI, and Two Paddocks.

There are many other smaller industries and sectors that contribute the economy of the south island and provide many job opportunities for people for example the textile industry, the retail industry, primary, media, computer and video game industry, engineering, food and beverage, construction, development and port these sectors and industry together provide jobs for quantity surveyors, journalists, editors, farmers, computer experts, and programmers, salesmen, shipping clerks etc.
