Jobs in North Island

New Zealand is made up of two islands the south and the north island, the north island is more populous of the two islands with a population of 3.148.400 and 75% of the population of New Zealand living on the north island, and is the worlds 14th largest island.

The north island is home to several major New Zealand cities for example Wellington the capital and Auckland. The north island one of the biggest cities in New Zealand. Auckland is the largest and most populous city in New Zealand with a population of about 1.4 million people. There are many job opportunities in Auckland since it is the home of many major international corporations, which provide jobs for financial analysts, investment brokers, stock brokers, managing directors, bankers, and investors.

The city of Auckland is considered the economic capital of New Zealand with the major employer being the financial and business services sector, the city employs the major proportion of the technical and trades workforce of New Zealand. The city has advanced industrial zones that provide jobs for electrical and mechanical engineers and many other people in the heavy industry. Most jobs in Auckland are office workers, such as accountants, clerks, secretaries, and managers.

The tourism industry in the north island is also very big with most of the tourism being based in Wellington and Auckland, for example in Auckland you can visit the Auckland Civic Theatre, Auckland Town hall, Harbour Bridge, Aotea Square, Eden Park, MOTAT, Ponsonby etc. in Wellington the tourism industry is another major employer, which provides jobs for tour operators, taxi drivers, hoteliers, etc and many other people who are directly and indirectly linked to the tourism business. Wellington has many tourist attractions which attract tourists from all over the world for example there is the Museum of Wellington City & Sea, Te Papa Tongarewa, Colonial cottage, Old Saint Paul’s, Wellington City Art Gallery, and the Cable Car Museum.

Chefs/cooks, bartenders, waiters/waitresses etc can all find jobs in Wellingtons café culture which is very strong, the city of Wellington has more cafes per capita than new York, which is quite an impressive record. Sportsmen, coaches, sports medics, sports agents, sports mangers and administrators can find jobs in the Wellington sports sector which is big. The main sports played in Wellington are cricket, rugby, netball and basketball.

The major ports on the north island provide many jobs for people in the export and import business, shipping clerks, and ship yard workers.
