Military Resume

Your resume is a marketing tool and is your most powerful tool when looking for a job, so a lot of attention should be put in making sure the resume is powerful and effective. When writing a military resume you don’t have to worry about layout and design of the resume because with military resume its not about design but content that will get you the job. A career in the military can be in many forms for example you can apply for a position as a, sergeant, corporal, major, army officer, solider, military doctor etc, however most of these posts are not awarded on academic achievement but on merit and experience which is why you have to dedicate a large portion of your resume to highlighting your military accomplishments and achievements.

A military resume has to reflect an image of someone who has very good interpersonal skills, someone with good communication skills, and analytical skills. A military resume has to reflect someone who can make fast and effective decisions.

An effective resume has to reflect your military background and experience. If you have ever served in the army this will be a good advantage to you because in the army it experience that matters. Your experience is your most valuable asset so you have to detail it meticulously in the resume making mention of the battles that you were involved mentioning the dates and stating your contribution to that battle. as you detail you experience in the resume you have make it clear to the employer that you the right candidate by giving details of your skills such as computer skills and other skills that you have developed over the years. There are other skills that thou might want to include the resume such as leadership skills, communication skills, teamwork, good work ethics, and cross-functional skills, good problem solving skills and decision making skills, plus the ability to come up with and implement strong action plans. A military resume should include information on courses and training that you have undertaken and are relevant to the current position that you are applying for.

Your resume should be straight to the point and be very factual to achieve this you have to make use of bullet sentences in the body of your resume, avoid using long paragraphs. A resume should be some thing you can read fast and through the key phrases in the resume get the idea of what the person has to offer so don’t generalize the resume get straight to the details the rest you can say when you go for the interview.

In your resume it is important to reflect a positive outlook don’t portray a negative picture of your self, you need to leave out the irrelevant and negative information about yourself on make mention of your positive points for example there is need for a lot of physical fitness and good shape so if you feel that issues like your weight, height, sex and age will be of a disadvantage to you then leave it out of your resume. Another important thing to remember is to never resort to lying if there is something you don’t want known leave it out but don’t lie about it.
