Jobs in Medina

Medina is an oasis city, found in the Hejaz region in west Saudi Arabia. The city is officially known as al-Munawwarah or al-Madinah and is the provincial capital of the Province of Al Madinah. Medina is Islam’s second holiest city after Makkah. Historically, the city made an impact as the home of Muhammad and his mosque after the Hijah.

The importance of the city is due to the presence of the Mosque and Tomb of the Prophet Muhammad. The prophet was buried in his home which is adjacent to the mosque. The city is also home to the first mosque of Islam which is known as Masjid Quba or simply Quba Mosque. The various mosques are the destination of a large number of Muslim pilgrims who come for the Hajj. The Hajj is an annual pilgrimage. The Moslems believe praying in the Mosque of the Prophet is equivalent to a thousand prayers in any other mosque. Medina has become a center of religious learning. The mosque of the Prophet also contains a library of Sheikh al-Islam Arif Hikmat. People are employed to conserve and restore the Mosque and Tomb of the Prophet, as religious educators and library personnel.

Because of the number of pilgrims that visit the city for the hajj, the hospitality and transport industry are booming. There are some areas in Medina where non-Moslems may not enter but the outskirts of the city are open to them. This will promote the tourist industry as people have avid interest in the history of Mohammad. Positions such as hotel managers, booking agents, sales agents, luggage handlers, waiter/waitresses, drivers, tour guides.

Medina is the most fertile city in all of the territory of Hejaz. The city supplements its income by practicing agriculture. The industry mainly produces cereals, vegetables and fruit. Medina has established itself as a center for date palms. The fruits are processed at the processing plant and packaged for export. Employment is available for agronomists, horticulturists, irrigation engineers, mechanics, export agents, customs personnel.

Medina is an oasis city. Its water supply is through an aqueduct from a spring at the southern part of the oasis. The water is drawn from the subsoil. During the rainy season, which is in winter, numerous wadis bring water to the city. Engineers, water technicians and surveyors are needed in this sector.
