Jobs in Makkah
Makkah is the Islam’s holiest city. It is also known as Mecca or Makkah Al-Mukarramah in full. The city houses the Kaaba shrine as well as the Sacred Mosque or the Masjid al-Haram. Makkah is renowned for the Hajj pilgrimage, one of the Five Pillars of Islam, which happens very year.
The economy of Makkah heavily depends on the hajj pilgrimage. The hajji has also had a significant impact on the economies of the Hejaz and Nejd regions. Historically most of the revenue was generated through taxing the pilgrims. However that was abolished during the 1970′s. The Makkah now generates its revenue from services provided.
The service industry has a strong base in the city. As it is the centre point for the Hajj there are a number of people, who are employed in the various hotels, restaurants and shops that cater for the influx that comes bout during the time of the pilgrimage.
Another major employer within the city of Makkah is the textile industry. The textiles that are made in the city by skilled craftspeople are in demand all over the world because of their high quality and workmanship. Within the manufacturing industries that are found in Makkah there are a number of varied commodities that are made in the city. Included in this sector there are ice factories. There are ice factories because, Makkah being in the desert, it needs a reasonably large supply of water and ice to cater for the large number of people who come to the city. There are also vegetable oil extraction plants found in the city. People employed in this sector are responsible for providing not only Makkah with oil, but also sending it to the cities of Riyadh, Madina, Jeddah as and when is necessary.
There are many people who are employed in the photography processing sector. This is due to the number of people who take pictures in this famous city also as pilgrims when they come for the Hajj at the end of the year. In the city employment can also be found in the poultry producing sector and the agricultural sector, which supply the food service industry and the general population.
