Legal Resume
The legal sector is a very broad sector that has many category and many professions that you can apply for, examples of such fields include legal secretaries, paralegals, attorneys and lawyers. If you are looking for a job in the legal fraternity then you will have to first and foremost do a lot of research in to what employers in the legal sector are looking for you need to understand and share their vision, goals, services, mission and company culture then from there you can write a good, powerful and effective resume based on the information that you would have derived from the research.
Most firms in the legal sector are looking for people who already have a lot of experience in the legal field, so if you have any experience in the legal or any other related field this will be an advantage to you this means that a huge section of your resume should be dedicated to detailing your experiences in the legal sector. In this section of your resume you will have to write down specific cases that you dealt with stating the case number and your contribution to the success or the failure of the case.
There are skills that you need to highlight such as good grades, computer skills, research skills, good command of English and good writing ability. You have to consider that your resume is not the only resume that the hiring manager will have to read so it is important that you make your legal resume short and attractive to achieve this you have to ensure that it fits in at least one to two pages, it should however not be crammed you should make it presentable, neat , design it in a eye catching way, use a readable type face and don’t mix type faces as this makes the resume unattractive so just stick to the ordinary typefaces such as Times and avoid anything fancy. Another way to achieve an attractive resume is to use action words that are legally oriented and will give the person reading your resume the idea that you are a pro and that know what you are talking.
Experience in the legal sector is very important if you are to get a job in the position you are looking for. In your resume you will have to include all the academic qualifications such as degrees or majors, as mention any internship that you have done and name the company were you conducted the internship, if you have conducted any research then you will have to in clued the subject area of your research and the results of the research. And if you have attended any law seminars and workshops then can include then in your resume stating the dates and the people who addressed the seminar or the workshop. In your resume it would be to your advantage to state your area of expertise because the legal sector is very broad so if you are good at dealing with wills and estates, or employment, business or criminal law then you need to state this in the resume.
