Jobs in Hobart & Southeast Tasmania

Hobart is the state capital of the Australian island state of Tasmania, it is one of Australia’s oldest cities and the eleventh most populous, with a population of approximately 205,566 according to a 2006 census.

The city plays a major financial role in the state of Tasmania, and is the home port for both Australian and French Antarctic operations. The port is very busy loading around 2,000 tonnes of Antarctic cargo a year for the Australian research vessel Aurora Australis. The port is a major provider of job opportunities in shipping logistics, warehousing, and other jobs that are associated with the handling of import or export goods.

The city has several industries which include a high-speed catamaran factory Incat and a zinc smelter operated by Nyrstar. The industry offers jobs for Metallurgists, Chemists, Engineers, Machinists, Mechanics as well as Fitter Machinists.

The city has a vibrant tourism industry, tourists visit the city to explore its historic inner suburbs, to visit the weekly craft market in Salamanca Place, as well as to use the city as a base from which to explore the rest of Tasmania. The tourism sector provides jobs in hotel facilities, the transport sector, security services and the marketing sector.

The city has some well renowned businesses some of which include the Cadbury chocolate factory and the Cascade Brewery and the surrounding areas have many vineyards, including Moorilla Estate at Berriedale. The chocolate factory and brewery provide jobs for Biochemts, Food science and nutrition personnel, sales and marketing personnel. The vineyards provide jobs for viticulturists, general hands and land use planners.

The city is set to build some 12 Storey buildings that include; car park, supermarket and offices and there is to be a radical makeover of the Hobart Waterfront. There is also to be a $290 million worth construction of the Myer and Cat and Fiddle Arcade and other facilities that are yet to be approved. The facilities that are to be constructed are going to create lots of jobs in many fields some of which will include, Builders, Engineers, Earth movers, Architects, Draftsmen, surveyors, Plumbers, Electricians, Painters and other fields associated with building construction.
