Halifax is commonly referred to as Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). It is the provincial capital of the Nova Scotia province in Canada. The HRM has the largest urban area in Atlantic Canada.

The urban area is renounced as the key economic center in the eastern side of Canada. The economy is dominated by a large concentration of government services and private sector companies, the major employers being the Port of Halifax and the Department of National Defense. These fishing harbors are either managed by the Department of Fisheries and Ocean or an independent harbor authority. Jobs include shipping, forestry, horticulture, agronomy, soil science, conservation and resource management
