The Southern Cross is a town located in Western Australia. It is also the major town of the Shore of Yilgarn. It is a small town holding a population of 708. It is a mining town which was founded by gold prospectors. The employment opportunities in this town are limited to mining it being the reason of its core existence.

The Goldfields-Esparance is region in Western Australia. It is the largest of the nine regions in Western Austalia.with an area of 771,276km2. It receives very little to no rainfall and is generally a dry region, pertaining infertile soils. As the name suggests, it is an area concentrated with gold mines that were in developed more than a century ago and a number of them are still running.
The economy of Goldfields is based on the mining industry. The key minerals being gold and nickel. Rough estimates of 200 miners reside in the various towns of the Goldfield. Employment in this sector includes underground geologist, environmentalist coordinator, miners, accountants, administrators, receptionists and secretaries.

The region indulges in the processing of the minerals as well. Gold is processed into a variety of products including, jewellery, ornaments, in health, and in food. The processing of gold poses an additional employment sector apart from mining. Nickel is used in a variety of products, industrial and consumer. The diverse uses and application of it increase the activities and employment opportunities it provides. Most of the processing is performed by specialists in the specific product to be manufactured.

Commerce in Goldfields is a common practice including establishments of banks, and shopping centers, pharmacies and schools.

Employment opportunities include bankers, clerks, business administrators, security officers, accountants and finance directors. In the shopping centers jobs include stockiest, shop assistant and attendant, receptionists, secretaries, lawyers, medical practitioners pharmacists, till operators and designers for the clothing shops. In the education sector teachers, lab assistants, general workers, administrators, accountants and bursars are the employment opportunities offered.
