Tourism is the primary industry in Goa. Goa handles about 15% of all foreign tourists in India. Therefore, this sector has huge employment possibilities. The foreign tourists mainly flock to Goa during the winter season and the general people of India visit the summer season in Goa. Tourism is popularly focused on the alluring coastal areas of Goa. One can find many jobs here.
The land of Goa is very rich in mineral and various ores. Therefore, the mining industry is another major job producing industry of Goa. Mining is mainly focused on iron ores, manganese, clays, bauxite, limestone and silica. Large numbers of youths are being employed in this sector and they are making rapid progress in their career.
The Marmagao Port is a famous port in Goa. It handles a huge amount of cargo. This port accounts for over 35% of India’s Iron Ore exports. So, young and enthusiastic people can also get a job in the port area. However, sadly enough, random mining in areas rich in Iron Ore and other minerals is now threatening the dense and lush forest cover as well as posing a health hazard to the local population. Mining corporations are also indulging in illegal mining in some areas without proper permits.
Agriculture has decreased its importance in past few year years. Still, it offers part-time employment to a sizable portion of the population. Rice is the main agricultural crop, followed by cashew, areca and coconut.
The fishing industry provides employment to about forty thousand people. But there has been a sharp decline of the importance of this sector. There is also a fall in catch of fishes. This is because of the fact that traditional fishing has given way to large-scale mechanized trawling. However, this industry is also providing jobs to innumerable people.
There are also many medium scale industries present in Goa. These industries include the manufacturing of pesticides, fertilizers, tubes, footwear, steel rolling, fruits and fish canning, textiles and brewery products. They have heavily contributed in offering jobs to a major part of the population.
As a whole, there are so many options available for the youth to opt for. So many business opportunities along with small and large opening in various companies and other industries are making the life of the youth little bit easier in Goa in these days where unemployment is increasing everyday.
