Dunedin is the second largest city in the South Island of New Zealand, and is the principal city of the region of Otago.

Ever since the 80’s Dunedin has been popular for its music and the city has gained national and international recognition. Today the city continues to be known for its music, with bands and musicians playing and recording in many styles such as electronica, reggae and folk. The music industry offers jobs for engineers, computer programmers, electronic technicians, music producers, professional musicians, music sales and marketing personnel.

The city has also been long recognized as a centre of excellence when it comes to tertiary education and research. The city has a number of universities and polytechnics which offer a wide range of jobs for research in crop sciences, medical and animal veterinary. The city has undergone some major refurbishments and redevelopments such as to places like the art gallery, railway station, and Otago Settlers Museum. The city is home to Port Chalmers on Otago Harbor which provides Dunedin with deep-water port facilities. The port allows Dunedin to transport some of its products that are destined for the export market. The city has an architectural history and it boasts having a Victorian and Edwardian architecture which is evident in structures such as, Otago Boys High School and Larnach Castle which were designed by one of New Zealand’s most eminent architects R A Lawson. The architectural features in this city attract some visitors from other cities that have an interest in architecture as well as attracting some students who want to major in architecture.

Dunedin also generates some revenue from other forms of tourism such as ecotourism. The region is home to several colonies of penguins, seals and other animals. This region is very rich when it comes to animal diversity thus the reason why the place is able to attract a multitude of tourists.
