Dalian is the governing sub-provincial city in the eastern Liaoning Province of Northeast China. Dalian is China’s northernmost ice-free seaport.

Dalian is an agriculture and aquaculture-based area, of which the area is populated by farmers and fishermen of Shandong, across the Yellow Sea. Dialin also produces some agricultural produce such as; corn, vegetables, fruit such as apples, cherries and pears. The aquaculture sector has become very renowned and today is exporting seaweed, scallops, and sea urchins to countries like Japan, Korea and other countries. Jobs offered in the agricultural sector include Aquatic ecologists, Agronomists, Horticulturists, and other fields associated with biological sciences.

Dalian has a shipbuilding and locomotives industry which is doing very well and companies that are in this sector include the Dalian Shipbuilding Co. and Dalian Locomotive & Roll Stock Works. The province also has some heavy and light industries, which include companies such as Dalian Heavy Industry Company, Dalian Chemical Group, and Wafangdian Bearing Company, and distribution industries such as Dashang Group. This industrial sector offers jobs in the Engineering, Architecture, Metallurgy, Chemical technology and Fitting and Turning fields.

Dalian has a Port and this has emerging as very important facility for the province as it has paved the way for international trade. This has resulted in the creation of a new harbor for oil tankers at the terminus of an oil pipeline from the Daqing oilfields. The oilfields have made Dalian to be the largest petroleum producing port in China and the 3rd largest in the world. This has also lead to Dalian being the home to major oil refineries, diesel engineering, and chemical production industries. The area has a well developed airline, rail and road transportation system that acts are the major transport options used when delivering the oil to its intended customers. The oil manufacturing industry has resulted in the creation of jobs in; Surveying, Chemical engineering and chemical technology and other professions associated with analytical chemistry and the oil refinery industry.

Dalian City has a well developed IT industry, especially in Dalian Hi-Tech Zone and Dalian Software Park in the western suburbs near Dalian University of Technology. These advances in IT have resulted in the creation of jobs for Web designers, Programmers, Microtech technicians and some jobs that can be done online and employees can work from their homes.
