Beijing, formerly Peking, is the capital city of China. It is a Metropolis located to the north of the country. Beijing is acknowledged as the centre for politics, culture and education. It is also a transport nucleus for China.
The Transport Industry
Beijing is the transport nucleus for the country. The metropolis has three major Railway stations namely Beijing, Beijing West and Beijing South Railway Stations. The last one boosts of high speed trains which are the fastest world wide. The stations can have traffic as high as 160 trains daily. The city’s main airport, the Beijing Capital International Airport, boosts of the largest terminal in the world. Almost all intercontinental air traffic arrives and departs from the airport. The airport is also linked to every city in China. The subway system is extensive for public transportation. The Yikatong cards are used to access transportation. These cards have radio frequencies which scan the cards at subway stations and on buses. Jobs that are available include: warehouse, finance and accounting, aviation mechanics, mechanical engineers, air traffic controllers, planners, drivers (train and bus), security, information technology.
The Public Service Industry
Beijing has a larger proportion of tertiary institutions than any other city in the country. A large number of colleges and universities are housed in the metropolis. These institutions host students from all over the world from countries and continents such as Japan, Europe, North America and Southeast Asia. The jobs available in education include: teaching, lecturing, research, administration, information technology, finance and accounting, security, catering.
The Tourism Industry
Not only is Beijing the capital city of China, but it has been the capital city of the Jin, Ming and Qing dynasties. This is of huge interest to the international community. The city houses the Forbidden City, which is largest and most integral imperial palace in the world. The Temple of Heaven is a place of great mystery as this is where the emperors from the Ming and Qing dynasties used to worship their gods. The largest imperial garden that can be found in China is at the Summer Palace in the city. There are more than 180 star-rated hotels as well as 14 five star hotels. Jobs include touring guides, hotel and catering, accounting, security.
