In order to become a professional attorney you need to be trustworthy because you will be in charge of preparing important documents, and developing factual information for the rest of your life. In your resume you will have to demonstrate to your potential employees that you have over the years developed the expertise required for the job.
When writing a resume you have make it clear how good your communication skills are, because every good attorney needs to have good communication skills, this means that you will need to indicate the numbers of languages that you know indicating whether you can speak, read or write each of them. Interpersonal skills are also important because you will be working with people and you don’t have good interpersonal skills then you wont make a good attorney, you will also need the ability to develop rapport with each client, you such also have the ability to assure each of your clients of your personal attention and your commitment to see them succeed in their case.
Like any other job your education will be the key to getting this job, you need to highlight your educational qualifications as much as possible for example you should degree(s) and majors, the date you graduated the educational institutions you attended, and any certifications and licenses you have that are related to your degree. Qualifications normally required to for you to become a attorney include having taken a Law School Admission Test (LSAT), which is need to get into law school, a qualification from a ABA approved law school, a pass in a bar exam, and a license to practice as an attorney in that state.
Your resume should also show your experience in relation to your desired position, if you have ever worked as an attorney or an apprentice before you have to indicate it, you will have to write the law firms that you have worked for the duration of your working period there and experience gained from working on particular cases that you should also indicate, when writing about you past experience in this field you have to provide very factual information, you will have to state achievements in this field and success to date. You must ensure that at all times you avoid writing anything in your resume that goes against attorney principles, attorneys are people who are supposed to uphold the law and advocate for justice so including anything such past criminal record will work against you when it comes to getting the job.
In your resume you should be able to indicate your ability to absorb new information, and the ability to make effective decision and most importantly the ability to work under pressure because an attorney is constantly working on a lot of cases at the same time so you should be able to show that you can handle this pressure. Meeting deadlines is of utter importance to an attorney so punctuality is a must if you want to get the position.
