Sample Architect Resume
Architects are people responsible for the designing of building and in some instances they supervise the construction work. When writing a resume for a position as an architect you will need to write a resume that reflects you’re in depth knowledge of buildings and the construction industry, new materials, building techniques and procedures.
An architect is responsible for designing building, and the best way to indicate your ability to design is to indicate houses that you have designed before this will be an advantage to you. Make a detailed list of the major projects that you have worked on, indicating whether you completed the project, the time it took to finish the project, and the budget for the project, also include how you have been able to benefit your past employers. You need to detail specific architectural systems that you are familiar with.
In your resume you have to be able to reflect your good communication skills because sometimes you won’t be working alone especially on big projects were you will be working with a whole team of designers, so you will need good communication skills. You will also need good interpersonal skills to handle big projects because when an architect is designing a building they don’t work alone but they will have to liaise with various other people like the structural engineer, mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, the municipal authorities, etc.
As an architect you will need to be creative, and able to come up with new ideas, you will have to be able to bring the clients idea to life and putting the clients vision to paper, plus the ability come up with new innovative ideas which compare to modern designs.
Educational qualifications are a must in your resume, you have to give details of educational qualifications such a degree(s) or majors for example bachelors degree in architecture or bachelors degree of environmental design, this should be in reverse chronological order meaning that you start off with the most recent qualification and list them going backwards, indicate tertiary institutions (universities, colleges) you attended and the time of attendance, you also need to show you understanding of computer based applications of architecture such as AutoCAD, as well as extensive use of Microsoft office suite and various web design software, this is important because computer literacy is an added advantage for anyone looking for a job nowadays.
In your resume you it is also advisable to show you knowledge of new practices, procedures, techniques, and processes that have been developed recently. You can also include in your resume crossover skills that know for example knowledge of electrical and plumbing appliances, knowledge of both commercial and residential building design, and knowledge in planning, budgeting, and scheduling.
As an architect you have to include in your resume your ability to contribute to cost reduction, improving efficiency, and revenue. It is also advisable to write a statement indicating what you plan to achieve in your new position and how the new employers stand to benefit from your experience and expertise in the architectural field.
